Scientific Discourse and Depth of Knowledge (DOK)

The ability to read, interpret, and communicate information in the science classroom is a 21st century NGSS skill embedded in the STEMscopes curriculum. We believe that teachers have the power to guide students in rich scientific discourse through modeling, questioning, and feedback, while probing for deeper responses that help students explore their ideas more thoroughly.

Summer slide can impact all students. By keeping them engaged on science topics over summer, students can be better prepared for the next grade while exploring fascinating phenomena.

NGSS 3D Scope Alignment Map

STEMscopes NGSS 3D is an award-winning, phenomena-based program that empowers your teaching of the Next Generation Science Standards. Navigating STEMscopes NGSS 3D is a breeze thanks to our scope alignment map that details how we built our 5E-based curriculum to the NGSS.

NGSS Evaluation Rubric

Using NGSS’s “Lessons Learned from the NGSS Early Implementer Districts: Instructional Materials” document, we have created a rubric to assess the 18 Criteria of Instructional Materials necessary to properly align with the NGSS.

Claim Evidence Reasoning (CER) Infographic

The CER process guides students to develop a deeper explanation than they would ordinarily provide. And teachers, when observing their students, can understand a student’s grasp of scientific concepts, their ability to use appropriate and relevant evidence, and the thought process they used to justify how their evidence supports their claim.

Continuous Improvement

We know you work hard in the classroom. Shouldn't a curriculum do the same? We are constantly adding new features and elements based on your feedback.

icon
Genuine Support

STEMscopes grew out of a Rice University professional development program. Teacher support is at the center of our curriculum programs. And we are always only a call away.

icon
Hands-on Science

Our core approach is hands-on investigation; doing science is learning science. Use our supplemental kits, or prep your own with our materials lists.

icon
For Teachers, by Teachers

The experts are in the classroom. These expert teachers work alongside Rice University professors to help us build and update STEMscopes. Staying on the forefront of the best practices is our priority.

icon
Built from the Ground Up

You won't find any "now aligned" stickers here. All our solutions were built specifically to the standards they address—NGSS, your state standards, and early childhood.

icon
Literacy Development

Grab one of our e-books, download it from your login, or get it as a supplemental print to support science literacy in your classroom.

icon
Inquiry-Based Instruction

Students learn best by exploring and discovering. STEMscopes makes it easy to facilitate inquiry activities, like PBLs, by scaffolding the entire process.

icon
Variety of Assessments

All lessons have multiple assessment types, such as kinesthetic, rubric-based, open-ended, gamified, and multiple choice assessments, to help you get a complete picture of what your students need.

Why Does Good Curriculum Matter?

STEM careers are on the rise- today’s STEM students are tomorrow’s STEM leaders.

STEMscopes curriculum products are engaging for students and easy for teachers to use, but more importantly, they are highly effective. Students using STEMscopes on average outscore their peers who do not use STEMscopes based in numerous case studies conducted by Rice University.

Regardless of English proficiency, economic status, or geographic location, STEMscopes positively impacts diverse student populations.

What Teachers are Saying

“STEMscopes is great. Until we began using STEMscopes, students didn’t understand that science is everywhere. In kindergarten through fourth grade, they thought science was a book. They didn’t see science as being connected to the real world, so they thought that when they left school they’d never use it again. Now they realize science is everyday life.” Karen Silensky, Fifth Grade Teacher Horizon Elementary, Broward County Public Schools, Florida

“STEMscopes is a major motivator for our students. It helps them grasp concepts, build their critical thinking skills, and connect science to real-world situations." Robin Butcher, Fifth Grade Teacher Horizon Elementary, Broward County Public Schools, Florida

“Because we’ve been using STEMscopes for a few years now, our students are better prepared in science at each subsequent grade level. Our middle school teachers say that students are arriving with a stronger foundation in science than they did a few years ago. They also have a better understanding of what’s expected of them, which is moving the learning process forward much quicker.” Don E. Cowart II, Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment Coventry Public Schools, Rhode Island

"Being a first-year teacher, I love having everything you need at the access of your computer to complete a lesson plan. From vocabulary, to video with worksheets in not only English, but also in Spanish, as well as extended activities. I love having the hands-on components that include a supply list as well as a quick how-to video on those hands on activities." Amber Moenning, Teacher Crockett Elementary, Wichita Falls ISD, Texas

"STEMscopes has benefited my students and me tremendously. Its practice has encouraged my students to further investigate into the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics as a whole. Its curriculum and experiments/activities are readily accessible, easy to use, and educationally comprehensive. I couldn’t be happier with STEMscopes!" Elizabeth Dennis, Fifth Grade Teacher Centro Mater East II, Miami Dade County, Florida

"STEMscopes allows me to focus on students doing science, not just reading about science. The annual student subscription is reasonable and suggests materials that are inexpensive and easy to find, making hands-on science affordable for a small school with a limited science budget." Angelin Petit, Middle School Science Teacher Sacred Heart Catholic School, Archdiocese of St. Paul & Minneapolis, Minnesota

"When a new curriculum gets adopted, teachers worry that they’ll need a lot of professional development and that they’ll have to spend hours planning to implement it. They didn’t do that with STEMscopes. They jumped in really quickly. STEMscopes is very intuitive and simple to use." Cyndi Ganfield, Principal Aumsville Elementary, Cascade School District, Oregon

"The vertical alignment in STEMscopes has been a big benefit. It standardized science so everyone is now speaking the same language." Bryan Dyer, Principal Cloverdale Elementary, Cascade, Oregon
