Teaching with Bundles Why bundling the NGSS is important.

NGSS Performance Expectations were not designed to be taught in isolation: bundling them together helps students see connections between ideas, enhances phenomena-driven instruction, saves valuable planning time, and ensures that all PEs are given sufficient emphasis while having a coherent storyline.

Bundles can be grouped by topic, DCI, and other creative approaches—there is no one correct way, other than involving student choice and having a culminating activity anchored with a central phenomenon that requires students to apply the 3D learning gained in the bundle’s constituent activities.

Bundles immerse your students in overarching STEM phenomena while linking the three dimensions across scopes (lesson modules). STEMscopes NGSS 3D offers pre-made bundles and empowers you as the educator to create your own to suit the unique interests and inquiry of your students.

Our Approach to Bundles

Providing teachers flexibility around bundling is a hallmark of NGSS alignment. STEMscopes NGSS 3D provides pre-made bundles based on central anchoring phenomena, and also deconstructs them into individual scopes based on a core investigative phenomenon so that educators can work with students to create their own bundles.

1 Analyze grade level end points and brainstorm storylines for the year
2 Find connections between PEs using evidence statements for insight
3 Using student diagnostic data and prior knowledge / practices, create an order for the bundles
4 Ensure that storylines are coherent—flow of phenomena is logical, scaffolded, and engaging
5 Ensure Bloom’s and DoK levels increase for all three dimensions over the year
6 Get feedback from crowdsourcing platform, model classrooms, and teacher focus groups
